BHS Jazz Band

The Brookwood Jazz Band offers students a chance to explore one of the most exciting and expressive forms of music while continuing to build strong ensemble and performance skills. This group focuses on a wide collection of jazz styles—from swing and blues to funk and Latin—and gives students the opportunity to grow as both individual musicians and as part of a tight-knit team.

The ensemble meets during 1st block both semesters, with occasional after-school rehearsals as needed for performances. While we aim to build a standard big band instrumentation, the Jazz Band operates with flexible membership based on student interest and instrumentation each year.

The Jazz Band performs annually at the Brookwood Choir & Jazz Spring Concert, and occasionally participates in festivals and community events, proudly representing Brookwood High School and the values of our band program: discipline, tradition, and family.

Membership is open to any Brookwood High School student who plays a traditional jazz instrument, and no prior jazz experience is required. Students will work on reading charts, understanding jazz style, and developing skills in improvisation and musical expression—all in a supportive, fun, and encouraging environment.

Whether you’re an experienced player or new to jazz, the Brookwood Jazz Band is a great way to challenge yourself musically while being part of something creative, collaborative, and meaningful.

For more information on joining, instrumentation needs, or performance dates, please refer to the Brookwood Band Handbook or contact our band staff directly.
